Farmers and Ranchers impacted by drought can now request emergency haying and grazing on Conservation Reserve Program acres in certain South Dakota counties while still receiving full rental payments for the land. South Dakota Farm Service Agency Acting State Executive Director Joe Schultz says its required that producers get approval from FSA in writing before they hay or graze those CRP acres.
He says those who emergency hay won’t face any penalties on their CRP rental payments, its’ different for non-emergency haying.
Schultz says their offices have been quite busy dealing with the effects of the drought and these programs so it’s important producers contact them as soon as possible, especially if they want to proceed with haying or grazing of CRP acres.
It’s always best to call your local FSA office and schedule an appointment. You can also log onto their website for more information regarding the various program rules and regulations
