The Friends of the Earth has joined BOLD Nebraska and other groups in a coalition opposing the Trans Pacific Partnership trade agreement. The deal is awaiting ratification by the U.S. Congress and several other countries who signed the pact. Friends of the Earth energy program director Ben Schreiber says the TPP will make it more difficult to make countries obey environmental regulations.

He says the TPP along with a provision NAFTA makes the U.S. more vulnerable to litigation from oil and gas companies.

Schreiber says at this point those opposed to TPP have a pretty solid case and are in a good position to influence Congress to turn down the agreement.

Friends of the Earth along with BOLD Nebraska, the Sierra Club and the Indigenous Environmental Network have written Congress outlining their opposition to the TPP.
