Four groups supporting the U.S. Country of Origin Labeling law want the WTO decision finding it trade distorting appealed. Lori Wallach, director of Public Citizen’s Global Trade Watch says any threat of retaliation from Canada and Mexico, the two countries that prevailed in the case won’t happen for at least a year if the U.S. appeals.
Wallach says if the U.S. loses that appeal, then there’s another option and that’s to settle out of court partly because that wouldn’t be as costly.
The four groups are calling on the U.S.Trade Representative and Ag Secretary to file the appeal with the WTO as they believe the decision will be modified.
