Four agriculture and biofuel groups have filed a lawsuit in U.S. Court in Denver against the Environmental Protection Agency due to their granting of so called hardship RFS waivers to several refiners. National Farmers Union Biofuels Advisor Anne Steckel says the EPA is failing to obey the legal requirements of the Renewable Fuel Standard.
She’s hoping their legal action will pressure the administration make the EPA follow RFS regulations as they’re defined in statute.
Steckel says there’s a great deal of renewable fuels being taken out of the market due to these high numbers of exemptions.
Joining NFU in the lawsuit are the Renewable Fuels Association, the American Coalition for Ethanol and the National Corn Grower’s Association.
