Culturally diverse foster parents are needed across South Dakota to keep children in their own communities and to help siblings stay together. The Department of Social Services is conducting a free training for anyone interested in becoming a foster parent. Jenessa Kniffen specializes in licensing people as foster and adoptive parents. She says the Parent’s Resource for Information, Development and Education (PRIDE) training is a 30-hour training that will be broken up into four days, and will wrap up in June.
She says there are 15 children in the Yankton area in foster care, which accounts for all the foster families. While the need here may not be as urgent, there are children all over the state still needing a foster family.
The training in Yankton will take place Saturday, May 16th at 9:00 am at the RTEC building. Anyone interested in the training can contact the department or visit foster one SD dot org. (fosteronesd.org)
