Southern Illinois University Director of Athletics Tommy Bell has announced that, following a comprehensive review of the football program, head coach Dale Lennon has been dismissed.

Lennon, who took over the program after Jerry Kill left for Northern Illinois following the 2007 season, compiled a 51-42 record in eight seasons at SIU, including a 36-28 mark in Missouri Valley Football Conference games.

His first two teams advanced to the playoffs and were 15-1 in league play. During his final six seasons, Southern did not make the playoffs and was 21-27 in MVFC games. In 2015, the Salukis finished 3-8 overall and 2-6 in conference play.

Lennon was head coach at North Dakota before leaving for SIU.
