Flags will fly at half-staff over the State Capitol in Pierre this Saturday in honor of former democratic State Senator Roger McKellips. He died last Friday in his home town of Alcester. He was 94.
He served in the Senate in 1977 and 78, and again from 1981 to 1994.
He also ran for Governor in 1978.
Former legislator Bernie Hunhoff of Yankton was first elected to the legislature in 1992, and got to know McKellips….

Hunhoff says McKellips set a good example to follow…….

McKellips was Majority Leader in 1993 and 94. Hunhoff says he continued to work with minority republicans…..

Funeral services for McKellips will be Saturday in Alcester.
