Attorney General Marty Jackley and Brule County States Attorney David Natvig confirm that 47 year old Brian William Biehl, of Platte, has been arrested by complaint on one count of grand theft by law enforcement of seized property, class 4 felony, punishable by up to 10 years in the state penitentiary and/or $20,000 fine.
Charges stem from money taken while he was employed as a law enforcement officer with the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
Col. Craig Price, superintendent of the South Dakota Highway Patrol, issued a statement following the arrest…
“While we cannot comment on the on-going criminal case, it is important for the public to know the South Dakota Highway Patrol prides itself on being a trusted public servant. Police officers are given great trust and responsibility, and for that reason we are held to a higher standard.
“These allegations are serious. We are reviewing our policies and procedures to determine if there is anything we can do to prevent this from ever happening again.”
Biehl was a trooper for a little more than 15 years, working in the Chamberlain area. He is no longer employed by the Highway Patrol, which is part of the Department of Public Safety.
