Professional careers are awaiting a pair of South Dakota State University athletes, one in football and one in soccer.

Former Yankton High School and Jackrabbit standout Kellen Soulek will continue his hope of making a National Football League roster when he plays in the new XFL which begins play in February.

Soulek is a member of the St. Louis BattleHawks. The 300-pound defensive lineman played at SDSU from 2014 to 2017 in a career that included 13 and a half sacks.

Former Jackrabbit soccer player Annie Williams has realized a dream this week, signing a professional contract with Deportivo Saprissa of the Primera División in San Jose, Costa Rica.

Williams is a two-time Summit League Defensive Player of the Year (2017-18) and earned United Soccer Coaches All-West Region honors in 2018. The Cottage Grove, Minnesota native spent the spring 2019 semester as a student in Costa Rica and played with Deportivo Saprissa’s club team.
