Former Nebraska quarterback Dennis Claridge has died.

The university announced his death at age 76 and said he had cancer.

Claridge helped College Football Hall of Fame coach Bob Devaney turn a moribund program into a national power in the early 1960s. He was a backup for the Green Bay Packers before moving back to Lincoln and setting up an orthodontics practice.
