The former head coach of the golf teams at Dakota Wesleyan University says he thinks he was fired because of an email he sent to players that included profanity.

Adam Anderson tells The Daily Republic that his teams asked to go to Missouri to watch the school’s men’s basketball team compete in the NAIA Division II national tournament last month. He declined the request so his teams could prepare for an upcoming golf tournament.

Anderson says he became upset that some players voiced their displeasure with him on social media, and he sent players an email that included a swear word.

Team captains issued a statement but didn’t comment specifically on Anderson’s firing. University officials declined comment. Athletic Director Curt Hart said Anderson’s firing is a private personnel matter.
