The South Dakota Stock Grower’s Association is monitoring a proposed land swap involving private land and U.S. Forest Service land in Fall River and Pennington Counties. Stock Grower’s Executive Director Silvia Christen says the Forest Service wants to swap land located in the Cain Creek land exchange in the Buffalo Gap National Grasslands.
Christen says this move would also involve private lands surrounded by public lands in Pennington County. She says there are potential impacts from this land swap to the tax roles.
Christen says the Forest Service has done a poor job communicating with the local taxing entities about this possible deal. She says her group wants to see private property rights protected and less land going into the hands of the federal government.
