Food Waste Goals Ironic

This week the Obama administration announced America’s first ever goals for cutting food waste nationwide setting a target of 50 percent by 2030. Nebraska Farm Bureau National Affairs Coordinator Jordan Dux sees irony with those goals given the food waste that has occurred as a result of the Healthy Hungry Free Kids Act that’s being reviewed by Congress.

He says his group isn’t against helping kids eat healthier but thinks the administration’s policy needs to be fixed.

Dux also says there’s no question food waste has occurred and needs addressing. He says everyone has a responsibility to help curtail food waste.

Current food loss and waste accounts for approximately 31 percent or 133 billion pounds of the overall food supply available to retailers and consumers.
