This week BPI and ABC News settled out of court over the $2 billion lawsuit filed by BPI against the network over the usage of “pink slime” in news reports referring to lean finely textured beef. Texas A and M University Center for Food Safety Director Dr Gary Acuff says how the trial will impact consumers beef buying or eating habits is yet to be determined.

He says LFTB is a perfectly safe product.

Suzy Geppert, Executive Director for the South Dakota Beef Industry Council says science has proven beef is safe and U.S. consumers get the safest product available to them from America’s producers.

Geppert says the science continues to protect the beef industry from misinformation and regardless of the type of beef you choose you can continue to feel confident about buying and serving beef to your families.
