Food Pantry Proposed for Yankton Public School

The Yankton School Board heard a report this week on the need for additional food help for families in the district.
Allison Struck with Feeding South Dakota says they have found that many kids who receive a weekend food pack are sharing them…..

Struck says they are looking for a pilot school program outside their service cities of Sioux Falls, Rapid City and Pierre. She says their pantry in Yankton would be an addition, not a replacement…..

Struck says they have found a room at Lincoln School that could be used for the food pantry…

Struck says they would help get the facility started with a ten thousand dollar grant, then work with volunteers to keep it going. Volunteers already provide about four hundred weekend snack packs to kids in the district.
