The Food Bank of the Heartland will have a new CEO on July 1st. Brian Barks is ready to take on challenges they face. The Food Bank distributes food to 535 non-profit organizations that include schools, emergency shelters, food providers and food pantries in 92 counties in Nebraska and Iowa. He says one of those issues is transportation.
Barks says nine years ago they were serving about five million meals a year and their number one complaint from food pantries and meal providers was they don’t have enough food. Fast forward to today, Barks says they are serving 25-and-a-half million meals and they hear that same complaint.
Barks says their goal is to make sure no one goes to bed hungry in their service area.
