Antitrust regulators in the European Union are opening a full investigation into the Dow DuPont proposed $ 130 billion merger. Food and Water Watch Research Director and Senior Policy Advocate Patrick Woodall says he’s pleased the E.U. regulators are looking into the matter and he’s hopeful the U.S. Department of Justice will also investigate in the near future.
Woodall says there are several problems with the proposed Dow DuPont merger including higher prices for farmers and less competition in the seed industry.
He says not only does the Dow DuPont merger need investigating, so do several others that are being considered.
E.U. regulators have delayed a final decision on their investigation until December 20. Meanwhile, Dow And DuPont officials expect to close their deal by the end of this year.
