Food and Water Watch along with Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement launched a campaign Monday calling for a statewide ban on new confined animal feeding operations in Iowa. Food and Water Watch’s Patty (low-vair-uh) Lovera says large CAFOs have caused environmental and economic damages and they need to be reigned in.

She says the confined operations they’re targeting for the ban include those with 1,000 or more cattle and 2500 or more hogs.

Lovera says they also released a new report called The Urgent Case for a Ban on Factory Farms that outlines the negative impacts of large CAFOS.

Lovera says you can see their full report on their website at Food and Water Watch.org.
