This week the U.S. House passed the Global Food Security Act of 2016 on a 369 to 53 vote. That gives the food aid bill final Congressional approval and sends it to the President. National Farmers Union President Roger Johnson is pleased with the passage and says the bill ensures both the Feed the Future and the Emergency Food Security program are extended beyond the Obama administration.
He says the legislation will help get food to needy countries.
Johnson says House Ag Chair Michael Conaway was able to get a component put in the bill which helped get it passed.
The legislation also requires the President’s administration to develop a government wide strategy for addressing food security.
