Health officials say the flu virus is widespread across the state. This comes as no surprise to University of Nebraska Medical Center’s Director of Infectious Diseases Dr. Mark Rupp.
Rupp says the epidemic curve is parallel exactly to what health officials saw during 2018, which was a severe season. Rupp says they are seeing several strains and some of the victims required hospitalization.
Some of the victims have been hospitalized. There were 356 confirmed cases in Douglas County alone last week, up from 299 cases reported two weeks ago. Health officials say the flu has become widespread across the state.
Rupp says that means you could possibly get the flu twice this season. They won’t know how effective the vaccine is until the flu peaks.
