Flooding to Shut Down Locks on Mississippi River

Flooding to Shut Down Locks on Mississippi River

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says flooding in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin is likely to shut down three locks on the Mississippi River this weekend. That’s a key waterway for shipping grains to southern ports. Soy Transportation Coalition Executive Director Mike Steenhoek says this disruption coming now is better than if it were during the heart of harvest season.

He says the unfortunate part is that even after a shutdown and reopening of locks, there can be problems that develop going forward.

Steenhoek says his group is continuing to monitor the situation.
