Heavy rains and flooding in portions of Iowa, Minnesota and South Dakota has totally wiped out some crops and will lead to yield loss in other fields. One of those impacted is Centerville farmer Craig Andersen, who owns land near the Vermillion River. He says his farm received eight inches of rain last week and much of his farm was hit by the disaster.
And he says with rain falling last night and more on the way this week, there will be no replant options in some of the fields. In fact, it may take many days for the water to recede.
Andersen is unsure at this point how much of the crop loss will be covered by federal farm programs and crop insurance.
He says the last time they flooded the ARC program did not provide much assistance for the ground in Clay County because of the way the county yield was figured.
