Excessive rains and flooding has not only drowned out several fields in the Northern Plains but has also brought with it late season diseases in soybeans. Pioneer Agronomist Curt Hoffbeck says three major ones have shown up.
He says there’s not much producers can do to handle these diseases although in some cases fungicides will work.
Hoffbeck says the diseases will cause at 25 bushel swing in yield. He says management steps that were taken earlier can mitigate some of the effects of these late season diseases.
Hoffbeck says one of his biggest concerns going into August is white mold which is the largest yield robbing disease in soybeans. He says if conditions remain cool with above normal rainfall, then higher yields will likely occur but along with that will come white mold. Hoffbeck says two shots of fungicides are recommended during early blossom or R-3 stage of growth.
