Governor Dennis Daugaard is asking South Dakota lawmakers to extend a law that governs the use of lakes that have flooded onto private land.
The bill was passed in a special session last summer, but will expire at the end of June if legislators don’t act.
Senator Jason Frerichs of Wilmot says the bill passed last year has been working…..

Frerichs was part of the interim committee that came up with the bill. He says there is no certainty that legislators will agree on the same bill again…..

Frerichs says he has heard few complaints since the bill was passed….

Frerichs says there are still some difficult issues to be worked out, including valuations and property taxes on flooded lands.
