Flood Relief Continues to Pour Into Nebraska

Flood relief continues to pour into Nebraska from all over the country. There have been generous monetary donations, but the support has also come in the form of feed and supplies. Zane Williams of Williams Hay & Cattle in Irene, South Dakota, loaded donated hay on his semi-trucks yesterday at Stockman’s Livestock in Yankton. He says they’re delivering to the Verdel area and a young rancher devastated when the Spencer Dam broke.

He says this is their second trip to the Verdel area and so far, they’ve hauled more than 100 tons of hay to ranches there.

Farmers have hauled donated hay from as far away as the East Coast to Stockman’s and the flood relief fund they set up has topped over $50,000 according to co-owner Greg Ryken.

Ryken says the recent hay donations resulted from the WNAX radiothon and more will be needed as some ranchers lost not only livestock and feed, but also grazing areas. After that ranchers will need supplies and assistance to build and fix fence.
