The process to renovate the fish population in Lake Yankton is underway.

Jeff Schuckman, Northeast Regional Fisheries Manager for the Nebraska Game & Parks Department says they poisoned the lake yesterday (Wednesday), and then quickly saw the results of that action…

Schuckman says they will be ready to start repopulating the lake in a few weeks…

Schuckman says by next fall, there should be some catchable fish in the lake…

The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department also assisted in the project. The lake was overrun by the carp that got in during the flood of 2011. The lake is just below Gavins Point Dam on the South Dakota – Nebraska border.
