Nebraska Senator, Deb Fischer, a member of the U-S Senate Agriculture Committee questioned Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack Thursday about corn exports to Mexico. Vilsack appeared before the Senate Agriculture Committee for the first time since he was again appointed USDA Secretary by President Biden. Specifically, Fischer was interested in Vilsack’s comments regarding the export of white corn, and Mexico’s intention to ban biotech genetically modified corn. White corn is commonly used for many Mexican foods, and Nebraska is the nation’s leader of raising white corn.
Fischer continued with her questions.
Vilsack informed the Nebraska Senator that he recently was in Mexico and discussed with Mexican officials the very topic of U-S corn exports to our southern neighbors.
Fischer suggested to the Agriculture Secretary to use all of his tools at his disposal and to be resolute with the Mexican officials.
