A former First Lady of Dakota Territory has been lost…but now has been found…..and remembered.

A ceremony was held at the Yankton City Cemetery yesterday (Wednesday) to mark the grave of Amanda Kate Pennington.

Gary Conradi of Yankton has been working to document the final resting places of all the territorial Governors and their spouses.

He said Mrs. Pennington was a missing piece…

Conradi says the trail took him from Yankton to Alabama and back…

Conradi says Pennington was an important figure in the history of Dakota Territory…

The gravesite, in an old part of the cemetery, was blessed by Episcopal Bishop John Tarrant. The church records of Christ Church in Yankton helped confirm the burial spot.
