A field fire about five miles north and west of Yankton Thursday afternoon was pushed by gusty winds and fueled by dry conditions.

Yankton Assistant Fire Chief Larry Nickles says the fire started in a corn field…

Nickles says they had to work in some tough terrain…

Nickles says they had a hard time getting ahead of the fire…

Nickles says the estimate is that the fire burned through about five hundred acres.
Fire departments from Lesterville, Volin, Tabor and Gayville helped contain the fire, which took about six hours.
Nickles says there were no injuries.
