The final report of the Government Operations and Audit Committee of the South Dakota Legislature on the GEAR UP investigation won’t mention the slow response by the Department of Education to problems in the federal grant program.
Senator Billie Sutton of Burke says he saw more evidence of problems with the Departments handling of GEAR UP dollars than the report indicates……
Senator Neal Tapio of Watertown says their report doesn’t reflect the problems they heard…..
Committee Co-Chair, Senator Deb Peters of Hartford, says the report is not the complete record……
The committee voted five to three to exclude the critical line from the report.
