The final installment of the Market Facilitation Program 2.0 will be disseminated to farmers soon. U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue confirmed the last 25-percent of the trade aid would be made but is not announcing a release date.
However, Perdue says farmers should not expect a Market Facilitation Program in 2020. With the signing of the China phase one deal they expect trade will gradually build making the need for additional assistance unnecessary.
South Dakota Farm Bureau President Scott VanderWal agreed that farmers want to farm for the market, not the government. However, he says the MFP payment was helpful.
Perdue made the statement at the American Farm Bureau convention in Austin, Texas.
