The Federal Emergency Management Agency is threatening about 420 homeowners in Union County, South Dakota that have flood insurance policies with a 50 dollar surcharge, if the county doesn’t meet their deadline with certain information. Dennis Henze is the Union County Zoning Director and says the county has been working for quite some time to avoid the surcharge…
Henze says FEMA is asking for elevation certificates and information on damage to homes from the 2011 flood. He says they also want pictures of homes within the floodplain that are suspected to have finished levels, which is illegal in terms of insurance coverage…
Henze says that the county hopes to have all documentation to FEMA in about 3 weeks to meet the May 18th deadline the agency has set to keep homeowners from having to pay the 50 dollar charge.
