The tornado that hit Delmont, South Dakota in late May left about 50 homes and buildings badly damaged. Director of the state Office of Emergency Management, Tina Titze, says they reached out to the Federal Emergency Management Agency for help…
The request was rejected by FEMA, and although the state did not receive a specific reason, Titze says that the majority of effected homes in Delmont have insurance assistance available; a factor that could’ve led FEMA to deny funding….
The last time that South Dakota qualified for individual assistance from FEMA was in 2011 for damages to homes and business during the Missouri River flooding. The state has since received public funding assistance.
