Federal officials have resumed egg inspections in Iowa again now that flocks are recovering from last year’s bird flu outbreak. Iowa Poultry and Egg Council Director of Consumer Affairs Katie Nola says with weather conditions warming up the likelihood of highly pathogenic avian influenza returning is minimal.
She says poultry producers have done a great job in responding to last year’s high pathogenic avian influenza outbreak with their biosecurity enhancements.
Nola says Iowa poultry operators are expected to be at their pre-outbreak production levels by the end of the year. She says luckily this year’s bird migration hasn’t resulted in a widespread outbreak of A-I like in 2015.
The FDA egg inspections have now resumed in 21 states including Iowa.
