Federal Court Judge Takes Beef Checkoff Lawsuit Case Under Advisement

This week a federal court in Billings, Montana, heard R-CALF’s lawsuit challenging the beef checkoff program. R-CALF CEO Bill Bullard says his group’s goal is to get the current beef checkoff declared unconstitutional.

He says one of the pointed questions asked by the judge centered around what constitutes government speech.

Bullard says the judge also asked the defendants how producers can opt out of the checkoff.

He says the judge took the case under advisement and promised a decision soon. Bullard is hoping that will come within the next two weeks.
