Nebraska lawmakers are considering a bill that would raise the speed limit by five miles an hour to 80 on I-80 and 65 mph on most state highways. Eric Koeppe is the president and CEO of National Safety Council – Nebraska and says they do not support an increase. He says when you raise the speed limit two things happen.

Koeppe is concerned the higher speed limit could lead to more deadly crashes on Nebraska roads.

The Council would also like to see seat belt use and texting while driving or other forms of distracted driving be primary offenses in Nebraska.
