The American Soybean Association is welcoming findings by the Food and Drug Administration that links consumption of soybean oil to reduced risk of coronary heart disease. Iowa Soybean Association President Rolland Schnell says that’s great news for soybean growers and for consumers.
He says the cooking oil market is very important for soybean farmers and the newly approved health claim will enable manufacturers of soybean oil to tell consumers about the heart healthy benefits of soybeans.
Schnell says sometimes soybean oil gets a bad rap but this approval by the FDA disproves that.
FDA recognizes the ability of soybean oil to provide a superior omega 3 fatty acid profile while also lowering bad cholesterol levels which benefits consumers and producers alike.
