FDA Asked to Halt Labeling of Plant Based Products as Milk

FDA Asked to Halt Labeling of Plant Based Products as Milk

A bipartisan group of Representatives is asking the Food and Drug Administration to investigate plant-based products that are labeled as milk. They want the government to require the companies that produce these products to adopt a name other than milk because they say the label is deceptive. Minnesota Milk Producers Association President Dave Buck agrees with this action.

He says labels that allow plant based products to be called milk are misleading to consumers and harmful to the dairy industry.

Buck says it’s beneficial for both producers and consumers to have the milk product label clarified.

Buck is hoping for a timely response from the FDA on the issue and is optimistic they’ll receive a favorable outcome.
