Fatalities Reported in Crashes in Clark, Day and Custer Counties

One person died Friday night in a one-vehicle crash northwest of Clark.

The name of the person involved is not yet being released pending notification of family members.

Preliminary crash information indicates that a 1997 Mitsubishi Diamante was westbound on 171st Avenue, near the intersection with 417th Avenue, when the driver lost control. The vehicle went into the north ditch and rolled.

The 20-year-old male driver was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

One man died Friday afternoon in a one-vehicle crash that occurred east of Hermosa.

The name of the person involved is not yet being released pending notification of family members.

Preliminary crash information indicates that a 1990 Chevrolet Cavalier was eastbound on South Dakota Highway 44 when the driver lost control of the vehicle while entering a curve. The vehicle went off the roadway and rolled.

The 36-year-old driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 61-year-old female died Friday morning in a two-vehicle crash west of Waubay.

Names of the two people involved are not yet being released pending notification of family members.

Preliminary crash information indicates a 2007 Lincoln MKZ Sedan was westbound on Highway 12 when it crossed the center line and into the eastbound lane where it collided with an eastbound 2021 Peterbilt 389 semi-truck and trailer.

The female driver of the Lincoln was pronounced dead at the scene. The 60-year-male driver of the semi-truck sustained minor injuries.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crashes. All information released so far is only preliminary.
