Farmers Union leaders are expressing disappointment with the USDA’s decision to allow importation of fresh and chilled beef from regions of Brazil and Argentina, known to have a history of foot and mouth disease. South Dakota Farmers Union President, Doug Sombke says there is not much that can be done now to stop these rules from being finalized and  effective September 1st.

Sombke says allowing these rules to go forward could result in devastation of the U.S. cattle industry.

Sombke says he’s toured several countries and seen first hand how on their health standards fall short of U.S. standards.
