The 2021 Nebraska Legislative session was a busy one for State Farmers Union members who testified on fifty different bills. President John Hansen says they were able to have a pretty good win percentage with the measures approved that they backed. He says some of the primary ones included a bill to create the Healthy Soils Task Force as well as passage of the Herd Share bill which creates more marketing opportunities for producers, consumers and small meat lockers.

He says another big victory for his group’s members was approval of the farm to schools program bill that will get more local foods into local schools.

Hansen says their one major disappointment was failure of State Senators to approve meaningful property tax reform and take steps to improve funding for education in the state.

Hansen says they supported 37 of the 50 bills they testified on and opposed 13. He says 13 bills they backed became law while two they opposed became law.
