20 South Dakota Farmers Union members are in Minneapolis this weekend attending the National Farmers Union Convention. President Doug Sombke says three of their top issues include trying to address low commodity prices, enhancing renewable fuels and dealing with animal antibiotic regulations.
He says some of their other priorities at the national level include keeping agriculture from experiencing any more budget cuts and keeping a strong crop insurance program in place.
Sombke says membership has been growing in South Dakota with over 18,000 now and they’re being recognized for that at this year’s convention.
In addition to policy issues and being recognized for membership, Union Center, South Dakota rancher Tammy Basel is running for NFU Vice President.
