The Senate Agriculture Committee on Wednesday held a hearing looking at the Growing Climate Solutions Act Legislation. The bill calls for giving farmers access to carbon offset markets. Nebraska Farmers Union President John Hansen says his group and their national organization support the measure and spoke in favor of it at the hearing.

He says agriculture is in a great position to enhance the climate with their practices and having a successful carbon credits program is a good start to positively impacting the environment.

Hansen says the chances of getting the Growing Climate Solutions Act passed and a new carbon credits program put in place are fairly good.

Besides Farmers Union, the American Farm Bureau and National Pork Producers Council all support the legislation.
