A resolution of disapproval 901 is on the schedule for the South Dakota Senate today. The measure opposes Governor Kristi Noem’s Executive Order which merges the State Agriculture Department with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. South Dakota Farmers Union Lobbyist Mitch Richter says they oppose the merger and testified in committee in favor of the resolution.
He admits it will be a challenge to get this resolution approved.
Richter says if the Senate votes in favor of the resolution, that’s all that will be needed to stop the merger.
The Dakota Rural Action and Environmental Groups are also opposed to the merger and support the resolution of disapproval.
