Trade agreements, the Ag Economy and concentration in agriculture are the three primary concerns for South Dakota Farmers Union members attending their Fly In this week in the nation’s capital. South Dakota Farmers Union President Doug Sombke says the TPP deal is not a good agreement for American agriculture and they’re continuing to oppose it.

He says the downturn in the farm economy is another primary concern and the current farm bill isn’t helping producers and needs fixing.

Sombke says ag concentration especially in the seed and chemical business is getting worse and they’re hoping to get Congress to do something about that problem.

Sombke says farmers are the losers when it comes to the just announced Bayer purchase of Monsanto. He says their costs will rise with the deal and give them less choices.
