Over 300 farmers union members from across the country have been meeting with members of Congress this week in the nation’s capital at their annual Fly In. South Dakota Farmers Union President Doug Sombke says their message is getting across on their priority measures including the need for fix health care.

He says they’ve also shown lawmakers that higher ethanol blends are needed and that their impact has been positive for both the environment and the overall economy.

Sombke says ethanol is also much better for the environment than electric vehicles which need to be recharged which is done with coal which isn’t good for the environment. Sombke also says they’ve told federal legislators that they shouldn’t cut any more funding with the new farm bill.

He says they also want the ARC and PLC programs tweaked in the new farm bill so they work more effectively for farmers.
