This week just ahead of Tuesday’s election the Trump administration withdrew the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement. That came three and a half years after President Donald Trump pledged to do that. The National Farmers Union calls the withdrawal shameful. Nebraska Farmers Union President John Hansen says climate change is happening and the U.S. needs to take a leadership position on that issue.
He says America’s farmers and ranchers are being impacted by climate change and there needs to be work done to find solutions.
Hansen says the Derecho storm that earlier this year devastated farms in Iowa and cut a wide swath is an example of the extreme climate change occurrences that are happening.
Hansen says other examples of extreme climate change include recent flooding and the large number of hurricanes that have happened this year. The United States is now one of 8 nations not participating in the climate agreement.
