Farmers Union Backing South Dakota Bill To Change Commission Selection

The South Dakota Farmers Union is throwing its support behind a measure sponsored by State Representative Dennis Feickert of Aberdeen that would change how Wheat Commissioners are chosen. Farmers Union Legislative Director Mike Traxinger says HB 1195 will be heard in a House committee next week.

Traxinger says the legislation calls for commissioners to come from districts which will be created under the new system.

Traxinger says it’s only proper that the Wheat Commissioners be elected as the state’s two other check off groups, corn and soybean both elect their directors.
