Farmers Union members are disappointed with voluntary biotech, GMO labeling legislation. South Dakota Farmers Union President, Doug Sombke says the Union wants a mandatory, uniform and federal labeling standard. He doesn’t think Pompeo’s Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act will benefit those who need it the most.

Sombke says while consumers want to know more about where their food comes from, and a mandatory measure is still needed.

The House voted in favor of the Pompeo bill 275 to 150. It now goes to the Senate.
