One farm group has come out in opposition to the repeal of the Estate Tax. The National Farmers Union says over 99% of small farms aren’t affected by the tax. Nebraska Farmers Union President John Hansen says changes to the tax need to be made as ag land valuations rise.
Hansen says there needs to be more diverse ownership of farms and ranches so all the land isn’t consolidated into the hands of a few.
National Farmers Union President Roger Johnson says USDA estimates that only 0.6 % of farms have to pay the estate tax, and another 2.1 % would have to file returns but would not owe any taxes.
